Do you know how to open a book properly? Fix loose or torn pages? Ever spilled water on your favorite novel? Want to learn some quick fixes that you can easily do at home? We can help. Bring your torn or tattered book in need of repair and join the Book Doctors for our basic mending and repair class. Handouts will be provided, class size limited to 10. A nation of immigrants: US naturalization and genealogy

Get some hints that can help you identify those ancestors for entry into those societies. Tracing your relative’s Masonic heritage

Genealogists often become curious about Freemasonry because of a mention in a relative’s obituary or from finding a Masonic emblem on a gravestone. Sometimes a family knows of the Masonic connection but for others, it is a bit of a surprise. FamilySearch online learning: US courthouse research

They are a rich source of written records created as a result of the laws, the time period, and personal activities of your ancestors. The steps delineated throughout this course will assist you to be more effective as you visit courthouses in your search for genealogical information. Family History Month Book Sale

Join us for that one special month when Clayton makes its duplicate family history books available for sale. These are books that have been given to us that are already in our collection. The sale books have never been in our collection.
LDS Microfilm/Microfiche Rental news!
The Family History Center in Salt Lake City has a new program where film and fiche can be ordered online from any computer that has access to the Internet. This program is currently active and replaces the former method of ordering microprint. See http://www.familysearch.org/films for instructions. If you click on “Ordering Help”, you can read a User’s Guide.

Members of the Oran M. Roberts Chapter UDC #440 are here to help you discuss your lineage application research. Join with local hosts Clayton Library Friends as they welcome genealogical researchers from throughout the state to attend the 51st annual Texas State Genealogical Society conference.
Held at the Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport, national speaker Paula Stuart Warren will offer 4 lectures on Saturday, November 5, including: Finding and Using Manuscript and Special Collections Repositories; Railroad Records and Railroad History: Methods for Tracking; Southern Deeds: More than Land Deeds; and The WPA Era: What It Created for Genealogists.
Friday offers multiple sessions each hour covering various topics, including Civil War, DNA, school records, African American research, Hispanic research, and much more. There will also be a vendor and exhibit hall, free and open to the public.
Thursday, November 3, 2011, will be “FamilySearch Day at the Clayton Library.” There will be 4 free sessions at Clayton Library. Reservations required, please call 832-393-2600. “FamilySearch Day at Clayton Library” is the only activity where you will register by calling Clayton Library. You must register for the entire day, but you can attend only those sessions you wish to attend. Adults/Teens.
10:30-11:30AM Overview of the FamilySearch website – highlights of the newly revised website
11:45AM-1:00PM consists of two topics:
FamilySearch indexing project – what is it and how you can participate
FamilySearch online film ordering – the new online ordering system where you can order film or fiche from Salt Lake City
2:00-3:00PM FamilySearch record search – focuses on what records are available on the website and tips on researching those records
3:15-4:15PM FamilySearch learning opportunities – the research wiki and learning courses available on the FamilySearch website
Also on Thursday, November 3, at the hotel will be a writing workshop with Paula Stuart Warren, Birds of a Feather discussion groups, and an ice cream social for conference attendees.
