What I enjoy most about this pin are the symbols that went into the design of it.
THE STAR (center) – represents Texas, the Lone Star State. It also represents the freedom of African Americans in ALL 50 states.
THE BURST- or the bursting outline around the star is inspired by a nova, a term that astronomers use to mean a new star.
THE ARC – extends across the width of the flag, at the intersection of the red and blue sections, is yet another symbol of a new beginning, or rather, a new horizon.
