Wordless Wednesday: Real Photo Postcard (RPPC)

Well, almost wordless . . . Check out this Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) of family I just found again!

Estella-Smith-and-Friends

This is a photo of my maternal grandmother, Estella (Smith) Chapple, and a couple of her lady friends (or relatives) that I have not been able to identify. But what makes this photo such a special one in my collection is that it’s a real photo postcard, a service introduced by Kodak in 1907.

According to Patty’s Antique Postcards,

Real photo postcards are actual photographs that were taken and processed from a ‘clean’ negative plate and printed in a darkroom on postcard paper. Unlike printing and copying methods used today, these photo’s do not contain ‘pixel’s or ‘dots’ when viewed closely. Void of the ‘middle-man’, these images are clean and crisp.”

Do you have some real photo postcards (RPPCs) of ancestors in your family photo collection? Let me know!
